RUST DAMAGE Lots of shine with little effort

When the damage to the sheet metal cladding is repaired, is it about that, to ensure a brilliant appearance. We give you tips on care and preservation.

It wasn't difficult at all: The repair of the outer skin of your vehicle is complete, And the result is really good. A small downer, however, mixes with the joy of the successful work, because the repaired areas look much "fresher" than the rest, UV radiation and weather influences have left their mark on the old paintwork. You should sacrifice part of an afternoon off – then you will be amazed, what transformation can be achieved by polishing the paint!
Polishing is a mechanical process: They only move you 0,04 to 0,05 Millimeter thick coating to the body, the top layer of which you can remove with the abrasives contained in the polish.

Polish is a mixture of such abrasives and wax. Paint cleaner and hard wax can also be bought individually. That is very helpful, if – z.B. with heavily weathered paintwork – several cleaning passes are necessary. You should apply the polish either with cotton or the supplied sponge. The polishing attachments for your drill press are just too powerful: A grain of sand or a particle of dirt is sufficient, and the paint surface already has spiral-shaped scratches.

Applying the hard wax is easy. Particular care must be taken in the areas of transitions, such as the window frames. Wax comes on the rubber parts, it leaves whitish edges. It sticks just as stubbornly to the windshield. The excess wax can be removed without leaving any residue with a cloth soaked in white spirit.

To protect the paint, the wax layer should be renewed every six months. Everything, what goes beyond normal pollution (see the tips from ADAC), and the washing systems are too much for preservation. Because cleaners are used in washing systems, who should take care of it, that even short washes achieve brilliant results. These chemical additives support the mechanical cleaning of the rotating rollers. Easy to imagine, that after a few machine washes there is not much left of the applied protective layer.
