Fill and sand perfectly – RUST DAMAGE

With a spatula and paint from the spray can, small dents and scratches on the car disappear quickly and easily. We tell you, how it's done.

Car filler has a reputation as a tool for dubious used car dealers, who want to conjure up a piece of jewelry out of a rust arbor. Not entirely wrong, because damage caused by accidents can be concealed quickly. For the repair of smaller indentations in the outer skin of the car, filler is actually very suitable. When it comes to fine modeling of beads, Air inlets or wheel arches, a special filler should be selected for this. The metal spatula prestolith alu z. B. can be pulled very easily. Mix only as much filler and hardener as possible, as you need for a shift. For each shift you have to 20 Degrees of temperature include around half an hour of drying time. The contour has to be right with the first layers of filler: With the following fine filler you can only fill cracks and small holes in the first layer of filler.

A tip: Spray some paint from an old can over the filled area. Except for the small cracks or holes mentioned, the surface must be flat and straight.

Have you restored the original contour with a spatula, sand the surface. You can do this sanding with an orbital sander (80he sandpaper) run smoothly.
Apply the fine filler with a flexible plastic spatula. The less of it sticks to the surface, the cleaner you worked. Even if it is more work and takes longer: Finger weg vom Schwingschleifer! The high abrasion of the device causes the paper to wear out quickly, the spiral grooves can later be clearly seen under the new paint.
Use 400 grade paper for the first touch, later you can regrind with 600. Do not save on water when sanding wet, it also washes away the sanding dust. The surface must be clean for priming and painting, be free of grease and dry.
Should one mask the repair area or not??
At the edges of the masked area, there is a lacquer edge, which must be balanced with grinding paste. Still, masking is better, because the spray mist is distributed - especially outdoors - and has to be removed from the intact paint surface. The primer from the spray can not only makes the paint surface more resistant, it also ensures that the top coat is held. From a distance of about 30 Spray the primer cross-wise a few centimeters. This layer is mostly after 20 Minutes and should be sanded very lightly with 400 or 600 grit sandpaper.

Starting at the edges, now spray the color in thin layers. Particularly important: Stick to the specified distance exactly (most of time 30 centimeter): At a shorter distance, runners form, the distance is too great, the lacquer gets an orange skin. Changes to the spray direction are carried out on the masking paper.
